This year’s ELI Annual Conference and General Assembly took place in Vienna (Austria) from 6–8 September 2017. The Conference, which was co-organised by the City of Vienna, took place at several venues including the palatial Vienna City Hall (Rathaus).

During the General Assembly the President, Vice-President and other representatives of ELI bodies reported on the progress achieved by the Institute in the preceding year to ELI Members. In line with the ELI's Byelaws, ELI Members also had the opportunity to elect 30 new Council Members. The elections took place between 6–7 September. To find the election results, please click here. In addition, the first winner of the European Young Lawyers Award, a scheme launched in 2016, was announced. Various panel sessions provided ELI Members and external participants with the opportunity to discuss the most topical legal issues on the European legal landscape, including:

Michael O’Flaherty, Director of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, delivered one of the keynote lectures.

In addition to the various evening events, the Gala Dinner on 7 September – a culinary delight –  provided the opportunity for attendees to network in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Several Special Interest Groups (SIGs) were featured in panel sessions on 8 September.
