Job Announcement – Project Officer

A part-time Officer at the Secretariat of the European Law Institute (ELI) is sought for the beginning of June 2017. We are looking for a committed addition to our young and dynamic team, who will be mainly responsible for project management. We are offering flexible working hours, as well as an international and creative working environment.

Competencies

 

  • An Officer at the European Law Institute’s (ELI) Secretariat ensures that the procedures which are essential to the running of the Secretariat and the ELI are completed. Has knowledge and understanding of concepts and approaches relevant to project management and administration.
  • An Officer at the ELI Secretariat is able to apply judgment in the context of assignments given, plan own work and manage conflicting priorities, is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results
  • The position carries a great deal of individual responsibility and requires working independently as well as in a team.
  • The Officer is in charge of the coordination and monitoring of ELI projects, the drafting of legal documents, and amongst others the preparation of the regular ELI newsletter.
  • They assist the ELI bodies by preparing reports and organising meetings and help organise ELI events, such as the ELI Annual Conference and General Assembly.


Minimum requirements

 

  • A Law degree (minimum bachelor’s degree) or another equivalent degree with comprehensive legal education is required.
  • Knowledge of the Austrian institutional and bureaucratic system is required.
  • Excellent command of English is required (native speaker level).
  • Knowledge of any other language, especially German, is an advantage.
  • Experience in project management would be an asset, as is work experience at international organisations.

Although the employee will be hired directly with the European Law Institute, the salary scheme of the University of Vienna (§54 VwGr. IIIa) applies. Please note the position is co-funded by the European Commission within a Framework Agreement (JUST/2014/JCOO/FP/NETW/6768). According to this Operating Grant, 90% of the Officer’s working hours will be devoted to projects focused on the priorities of the call (Insolvency project, ADR project) and 84% of the rest of the time to general activities to be co-financed (Council, Annual Conference, Secretariat General Activity). Further, as this is a co-funded position, initially the posting would be until 31 December, which depending on available funding could be extended.
