ELI Croatian Hub Held the 16th Webinar in its Webinar Series

09.06.2022

On 9 June 2022, the ELI Croatian Hub held its 16th webinar in a series of webinars organised to contribute to the discussion on current ELI projects and recent developments in Croatian, comparative, and EU law. The webinar gathered participants from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, and North Macedonia.

The webinar commenced with a welcome address from Mr Zoran Hačić (ELI Croatian Hub Co-Chair; Attorney-at-Law and Managing Partner in Hačić & Bošnjak Law Firm, Zagreb) and was followed by a lecture on the ‘Case Law of the Court of Justice in the Field of Personal Data Protection’, delivered by Dr Marko Jurić (Associate Professor at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Law).

The lecture was addressed at the possible incompatibility of the Croatian Electronic Communications Act with EU law in light of the CJEU case law following the CJEU’s declaration of invalidity of the Data Retention Directive. The particular focus of the lecture was on the Joined Cases C-293/12 and C-594/12 (Digital Rights Ireland and Kärntner Landesregierung), Joined Cases C-203/15 and C-698/15 (Tele 2 Sverige and Watson and Others), Case C-623/17 (Privacy International), and Case C-140/20 (Commissioner of the Garda Síochána and Others).

The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session.

The next ELI Croatian Hub webinar will be held on 5 July 2022.
