ELI Expert Participates in Council of Europe CDCJ-ADMIN-AI Working Group

03.11.2022

On 3 November 2022, Prof Dr Jens-Peter Schneider participated in the first meeting of the working group of the Council of Europe European Committee on Legal Co-operation (CDCJ) on administrative law and artificial intelligence (CDCJ-ADMIN-AI).

The working group discussed preliminary proposals on the directions the CDCJ should take concerning its future work on administrative law and artificial intelligence. ELI Member Prof Dr Jens-Peter Schneider, Co-Reporter of the ELI Model Rules on Impact Assessment of Algorithmic Decision-Making Systems Used by Public Administration, emphasised on this occasion that administrations need to equally exploit potentials of AI for better public services as well as to avoid inacceptable risks for individual rights and the common good. Consequently, legal frameworks for AI used by public administration should establish systemic accountability mechanisms complementing mechanisms for individual legal protection.
