Insurance Law SIG Organising Transatlantic Lectures on Insurance Law

The ELI Insurance Law SIG is organising a transatlantic lecture series on insurance law. Two further lectures focusing on artificial intelligence and insurance will be organised on 23 September and 11 November 2021.

The lecture series represents a transatlantic joint venture in which leading experts from Europe, North America, South America and Africa discuss fundamental questions of insurance law online.

The lecture series encompasses key topics, each of which will be dealt within two lectures over the period of half a year. The first lecture on 25 March 2021 addressed the issue of COVID-19 and business interruption insurance. More information about the lecture, including a recording, is available here.

The second lecture on 27 May 2021 dealt with the UNIDROIT Note on the Principles of Reinsurance Contract Law (PRICL) and the COVID-19 Health Crisis. More information about the lecture, including a recording, is available here.

Two further lectures focusing on artificial intelligence and insurance will be organised in autumn.

On 23 September 2021, participants will discuss recent trends in US and EU law regarding liability and insurance for artificial intelligence. Dirk Staudenmayer (Head of Unit, European Commission) will provide a presentation on ‘Liability for AI and Insurance – Reflections at EU Level’ and Mark Geistfeld (Sheila Lubetsky Birnbaum Professor of Civil Litigation, NYU Law) on ‘Insurance Implications of Autonomous Vehicles and AI in the US’. This will be followed by comments by Diana Cerini (Professor; Director of CELIS (Centre for Law, Innovation and Sustainability), Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, Milan) and John Pruitt (Special Advisor of the Principles for Reinsurance Contract Law (PRICL) Project; Partner, Eversheds Sutherland (US) LLP, New York).
