
Ivan Tot is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Business Law at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Economics & Business, Croatia.
He holds a law degree (2007), a specialist degree in business and EU law (2012) and a PhD in commercial law (2016) from the University of Zagreb. His doctoral research examines contract, tax and accounting aspects of operating leasing contracts in US, Austrian, German and Croatian law.
He teaches commercial and company law, banking law and European contract law. He is the editor of the publishing series Croatian Law of Obligations in a Comparative Context and the chairman of the organising committee for the conference series Zagreb International Conference on the Law of Obligations.
His research focuses on the law of obligations, comparative contract law and banking law.
He has been a member of the European Law Institute (ELI) since 2012 and serves as an elected ELI Council member (2021-2025). Since 2020, he has co-chaired the ELI Croatian Hub, awarded for its activities the ELI Hub of the Year award in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
He is also a member of the European Society for Comparative Legal History and an associate member of The Society of Legal Scholars in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
