Maria Rosaria Maugeri graduated summa cum laude in Law (University of Catania) and holds a PhD from the European University Institute in Florence. She is Full Professor at the Department of Law of the University of Catania. She is also the President of the Honors College at the University of Catania, Member of a Board of the Italian School for the Judiciary, President of one of the panels of the Italian Banking and Financial Ombudsman, Member of the Executive Board of SIDE-ISLA (Italian Society of Law and Economics), Member of the Academic Board of the PhD in Private Law at the University of Pisa and director of many leading Italian law journals and series.

Maria Rosaria Maugeri is enrolled in the Register of Counsels at the Supreme Court of Cassation and in the Register of Arbitrators for Public Contracts at the Italian National Anti-Corruption Authority.

She won the Jean Monnet Chair in European Civil Law – Acquis communautaire and harmonisation perspectives and the Società Italiana degli Studiosi del Diritto Civile (SISDIC) 'Scientific Excellence' award for her monograph on 'Consumer Credit'. She was the Director of UnipolSai SpA, Trenitalia SPA, Maps SPA.

She has been teaching the following courses: Civil Law, New Contracts Law, Private Law, Antitrust Law, European Private Law and Comparative Private Law as well as European Contract Law.

She has been invited as a speaker to several national and international conferences.
