GEMME is a non-profit organisation established in 2003 under French law to bring together European judges interested in the promotion and development of alternative dispute resolution methods, in particular judicial mediation.

For twenty years, the association has sought to strengthen its community of European judges and associated members (lawyers, barristers, academics, mediators, experts) to promote and develop exchanges on judicial practices in the field of ADR, to design and implement training programmes for the judiciary, schools and universities, and to promote ADR among legal practitioners, court users, universities and the public.

GEMME offers a wide access to 800 judges, lawyers, academics and mediators in European countries (EU, EFTA, UK).

A member of GEMME is a member of both the Association and the National Section of his or her country. A national section is formed when there are at least seven members from the same country, two-thirds of whom are judges.

Membership of GEMME Europe provides a valuable opportunity for all its members across Europe to collaborate with national legal systems and to promote not only mediation, but all appropriate forms of conflict resolution, for the benefit of every citizen. By contributing to the development of a modern, multi-dimensional judicial system inclusive of all alternative dispute resolution methods, we are paving the way for a better future.
