The Austrian Supreme Court of Justice (Oberster Gerichtshof, OGH) is the final appellate instance in civil and criminal proceedings in Austria. As a part of the overall ordinary court system, the Supreme Court performs a comprehensive guiding role consisting of the safeguarding of legal uniformity, legal certainty and the development of the law.

Besides hearing appeals in civil and criminal matters, the Supreme Court also performs a number of other roles. In the course of legislative initiatives, the Supreme Court regularly issues opinions on draft legislation.

The Court also acts as the final employment and disciplinary court for judges and as a court of final appeal in disciplinary proceedings against notaries.
