2023 ELI Annual Conference: Young Lawyers Award

06.09.2023

Yulia Sergeeva wins the 2023 ELI Young Lawyers Award for her paper on ‘The Green Transition Puzzle: Energy Communities as a Missing Piece’.

In her paper, Sergeeva draws attention to the concept of energy communities and suggests that the current legal framework governing the EU energy sector is inadequate for the realisation of their true potential. An extract of the paper is available here. The full paper can be read in an upcoming edition of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law’s (UNIDROIT) Uniform Law Review.

Yulia Sergeeva is a third-year LLB student at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, and a junior legal adviser at Ocean Grazer BV.

She was announced the winner of the award at an evening reception organised within the framework of ELI’s 2023 Annual Conference on 6 September 2023. Walter Doralt, Chair of the ELI Young Lawyers Award Jury, and John North, member of the Jury and representative of the International Association of Independent Law Firms (Interleges), the sponsor of the Award, handed her the award. ELI wishes to extend its gratitude to Interleges, which has sponsored the Award for the sixth time.

The ELI Young Lawyers Award was officially launched at the 2016 ELI Annual Conference and General Assembly. The goal of this award is to provide the young European legal community with a mechanism to propose practical suggestions for the improvement of European law. The award is supported by ELI and other participating institutions.
