ELI Principles Governing the Third Party Funding of Litigation Discussed in Oxford

11.02.2026

On 11 February 2026, the European Law Institute’s (ELI) Principles Governing the Third-Party Funding of Litigation were presented at Oxford University by Susanne Augenhofer, Project Co-Reporter and ELI Council member.

Professor Dr Susanne Augenhofer discussed the ELI Principles in the context of the Business Law Workshop on ‘How Should We Regulate Third-Party Litigation Funding?’

The Principles, developed through extensive comparative research and expert consultation, aim to promote transparency, fairness, and accessibility in funding arrangements. They offer a flexible yet robust framework that jurisdictions may incorporate into legislation or regulatory practice to ensure effective oversight and enforcement.

The ELI encourages policymakers across Europe to consider adopting the Principles as an essential tool for strengthening trust and accountability in TPFL.

The Principles are available here.
