AI and Public Administration: Project Team and Advisory Committee Meeting

29.06.2021

On 29 June 2021, the Project Team and Advisors of the ELI project on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Public Administration – Developing Impact Assessments and Public Participation for Digital Democracy met remotely to discuss the revised draft Model Rules.

The Project Team presented the changes made to the draft Model Rules, which deal with an impact assessment of algorithmic decision-making systems used by public administrations. This was followed by a fruitful discussion with Advisors Fabrizio Cafaggi, Raja Chatila, Péter Darák, Michael Gøtze, Alexia Maniaki-Griva, Philip Moser QC, Ilaria Pretelli, David Reichel and Jane Reichel. The Advisors welcomed the new draft and provided several valuable drafting suggestions, concerning, among other things, the independence of expert boards involved in the impact assessment, the responsibility for data used in algorithmic decision-making systems and remedies.

After the meeting with the Advisory Committee, the Project Team convened briefly to discuss the feedback received and plan the next steps of the project. The Project Team will meet again on 21 July 2021.
