The SIG is pleased to announce the launch of its inaugural annual prize, celebrating outstanding doctoral theses in comparative family law, comparative succession law, and comparative or European private international law in the fields of family or succession. The winner will receive the SIG's Certificate of Distinction, be featured on the SIG's website, and have the opportunity to present their research in a dedicated webinar.
The prize will be awarded by a distinguished Selection Committee comprising Elena Bargelli (SIG Chair, University of Pisa, Italy), Ilaria Pretelli (SIG Chair, Institut de Droit Comparé, Switzerland), Francisco Javier Jiménez Muñoz (SIG Chair, National Distance Education University (UNED), Spain), Gregor Christandl (SIG Member, University of Graz, Austria), and Denise Wiedemann (SIG Member, Max Planck Institute for Comparative and Private International Law, Hamburg, Germany).
The thesis must be written in one of the first five most spoken EU languages, namely: English, German, French, Italian or Spanish.

The call opens on 1 August 2025, with the deadline for submissions on 30 September 2025 (23:59 CET).
The winner will be notified on 15 December 2025.
