In 2026, ELI marks the 15th anniversary of its foundation, having been established on 1 June 2011. To commemorate this milestone, ELI is hosting a series of anniversary events throughout the year, reflecting both the Institute’s European base and its long-standing cooperation with partners and institutions worldwide.
Events have already taken place in Portugal and Denmark and will continue across Europe, including in Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania, Greece, Switzerland, and Germany. In parallel, anniversary activities are foreseen with partners in Asia, North America, South America, and Oceania, including engagements in India, South Korea, China, the United States, Canada, Chile, and Australia.
Today’s session was generously hosted by the ELI UK Hub and focused on digital assets and artificial intelligence in legal practice. It brought together judges, lawyers, academics, and policymakers, providing a forum for dialogue and encouraging active UK participation in shaping legal frameworks for the digital age.
Chaired by ELI Council member and UK Hub Co-Chair, Prof Hugh Beale, and Hub Co-Chair Prof Eva Lein, the first session featured ELI President, Prof Dr Teresa Rodríguez de las Heras Ballell, who presented ELI’s work on digital assets, including its instrument on the use of digital assets as security, and on enforcement and succession.
In the second session, ELI First Vice-President Sir Geoffrey Vos addressed developments relating to the ELI Principles on AI and the Judiciary, as well as work on automated contracting and future project directions in the field of AI.
ELI is particularly grateful to the UK Hub for hosting this important event and for its continued engagement with the Institute’s work.
