This new status marks an important step in strengthening cooperation between ELI and the Council of Europe. It will enable ELI to follow the CDDH’s work more closely and contribute its independent legal expertise to discussions on the development and implementation of European human rights standards.

The observer status is particularly relevant in light of ELI’s ongoing engagement with initiatives pursued within the framework of the Drafting Group on the use of new technologies by the European Court of Human Rights and new tendencies in litigation before the European Court of Human Rights (CDDH-TE).

The CDDH’s work is also closely in line with ELI’s strong interest in judicial independence and strengthening the quality of justice, including ELI’s new initiative, developed together with the CCJE and EJTN, to explore a possible Convention on the Protection of Judges.

ELI looks forward to building on this new relationship with the CDDH and to contributing constructively to its work in the years ahead.
