Project Chair and Reporters Convene to Review Preliminary Draft

The ELI project on Guiding Principles on Seizing Sanctioned Assets has taken an important step forward. Following their initial kick-off meeting on 29 October 2025, Project Chair Sir Geoffrey Vos (Master of the Rolls and Head of Civil Justice in England and Wales, ELI First Vice-President) convened a meeting with the Co-Reporters, Dr Illia Chernohorenko (University of Oxford), Prof Dr Krista Nadakavukaren Schefer (University of Basel), and Prof Dr Philippa Webb (University of Oxford), to examine and discuss the preliminary draft.

A practical, user-friendly flowchart designed as the central output of the project, will be accompanied by Guiding Principles and commentaries. Together, these tools aim to assist national and international authorities in the freezing, seizure, and possible repurposing of assets in response to serious misconduct by states.

Further information about the project can be found here.

A kick-off webinar presenting the preliminary results will take place on 6 February 2026. Register here.
