ELI in the World
In 2026, ELI will mark the 15th anniversary of its foundation, having been established on 1 June 2011. Over the past fifteen years, ELI has developed into a leading independent organisation dedicated to improving the quality of law in Europe through analysis and inclusive dialogue among legal professionals, institutions and stakeholders.
To mark this milestone, ELI will host a series of anniversary events throughout 2026, reflecting both the Institute’s European base and its long-standing cooperation with partners and institutions in different regions of the world.
Across Europe, events are planned, among others, in Spain, Portugal, Italy, the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania, Greece, Switzerland, and Germany. In addition, anniversary activities are foreseen with partners in Asia, North America, South America, and Oceania, including events or exchanges in India, South Korea, China, the United States, Canada, Chile, and Australia. Further venues are currently under discussion and will be announced in due course.
In some instances, ELI’s anniversary celebrations will also be organised jointly with partner institutions marking important milestones of their own, including celebrations held in connection with the centenary of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) and the 60th anniversary of UNCITRAL. These joint events reflect long-standing institutional cooperation and shared engagement in legal dialogue and law reform.
Key Anniversary Moment and Joint Celebrations
The central anniversary event will take place on 1 June 2026, marking the exact date of ELI’s foundation, and will be hosted in Madrid under the invitation of the Spanish Supreme Court, the General Council of the Judiciary of Spain, the General Council of Notaries of Spain, the Spanish Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Spanish Association of Property and Mercantile Registrars, and additional partners.
