The European Law Institute (ELI) is pleased to welcome the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) as its newest Institutional Member, further strengthening ELI’s network of leading European and international institutions.

The announcement comes during the 2026 ELI Annual Conference in Paris, where Wojciech Wiewiórowski (European Data Protection Supervisor) is participating in a panel on 2 September addressing artificial intelligence, biometrics, fundamental rights and data protection.

The EDPS joins a distinguished network of around 180 ELI Institutional Members, encompassing European and international institutions and organisations, courts, professional associations, universities, law firms and other bodies actively involved in European legal development.

Notable Institutional Members include the European Parliament, Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) and International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT).

ELI’s institutional membership also includes numerous Supreme, Supreme Administrative and Constitutional Courts across Europe, as well as leading professional and judicial organisations, including the International Bar Association (IBA), Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), Council of the Notariats of the European Union (CNUE), European Network of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ), European Judicial Training Network (EJTN), Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union and European Consumer Organisation (BEUC).

The breadth of the community the EDPS is joining is particularly visible at this year’s Annual Conference. Speakers and participants gathering in Paris include Mathias Guyomar (President, European Court of Human Rights); Richard Ferrand (President, French Constitutional Council); Marc Guillaume (Vice-President, French Council of State); Christophe Soulard (First President, Court of Cassation, France); Baroness Sue Carr (Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales); Donal O’Donnell (Chief Justice of Ireland; President, Network of the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union); Thierry Hoscheit (President, Superior Court of Justice and Constitutional Court of Luxembourg); and Valentina Pavličić (President, Supreme Court of Montenegro).
