Italian Hub Conference on EU Law and Third Countries

20.11.2025

The event will take place on 20 November 2025 (10:30 CET) at University of San Marino, Salita alla Rocca, 44 - San Marino (RSM) and online.

The seminar aims to investigate the relevance of the acquis communautaire in the future application of the association agreement recently signed between the European Union and the Republic of San Marino. It will also examine how the principles of European law influence countries that have chosen different relationships with the EU, looking at their impact on legal practice and case law. The discussion will take as its starting point the new association agreement with San Marino, which, along with the case of Andorra, serves as a key example.
The scope of the discussion will extend to other ‘minor’ countries and territories that modulate their relationships differently, such as Gibraltar and the Faroe Islands.
The key topics to be presented include an examination of EU principles within the European Economic Area (EEA), with a specific focus on Liechtenstein. There will also be a discussion on the acquis communautaire as it (and if) applies to Switzerland and the Canton of Ticino.
