Belgio-Luxembourg Hub’s Second Webinar on Cybersecurity and Dispute Resolution

05.05.2021

On 5 May 2021, the Belgio-Luxembourg Hub organised the second webinar in its Cybersecurity and Dispute Resolution webinar series, entitled ‘The EU responses to cyber-incidents, more regulation or more litigation?’.

In the follow up lecture to the webinar of 28 April 2021, participants observed that litigation would help to clarify applicable obligations, responsibilities, rules and procedures, despite the fact that there is a risk of fragmentation due to the different Member States’ contexts.

Vagelis Papakonstantinou (Research Group on Law, Science, Technology & Society of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (LSTS-VUB); Hellenic Data Protection Authority) discussed the need to refine personal data security through litigation. Audrey Guinchard (University of Essex) pointed out the counterproductive effect of criminalising all sorts of behaviours that represent core activities of security researchers, and are therefore needed to enhance cybersecurity.

The programme of the webinar series, organised under the scientific supervision of Enguerrand Marique, Charles-Albert Helleputte and Diletta De Cicco, can be accessed here.
