Belgo Luxembourg Hub Conference: Collective Insurance and Alternative Distribution Channels

22.01.2026

The event took place on 22 January 2026 at the Cercle Munster in Luxembourg.

The conference ‘Les assurances collectives, un mode alternatif de distribution de l’assurance (points de vue européen et luxembourgeois)’ examined the growing use of collective insurance as an alternative distribution model to traditional agency and brokerage channels.

The presentations addressed the increasing role of diverse actors – such as banks, professional or sports organisations, and commercial operators including leasing companies, travel agencies and retailers – in offering insurance products. The discussions focused on the legal questions raised by this model, including the nature of the relationships between insurers, policyholders and members; compliance with consumer protection rules; responsibility for informing members; and whether the policyholder becomes an insurance intermediary or a permanent establishment of the insurer.

The programme featured contributions from Jean‑Marc Binon on insurance and consumer law, and Marc Gouden on aspects of Luxembourg law, under the Presidency of Denis Philippe and Grégory Minne. The event concluded with a lunch, and the full reports will be published in the journal DAOR.
