The event commenced with a warm welcome address from Mr Hrvoje Pauković (ELI Croatian Hub Co-Chair; Managing Director at the Croatian Insurance Bureau).

This was followed by an insightful lecture on ‘Principle of Proportionality and Private Law Relations’ delivered by Professor Zvonimir Slakoper (University of Zagreb Faculty of Economics & Business, Department of Business Law, and the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law, Department of Civil Law) and Dr Maša Marochini Zrinski (University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law, Department of Theory of Law and State).

In the first part of the lecture, Dr Marochini Zrinski discussed the horizontal effect of the principle of proportionality and analysed several related European Court of Human Rights cases against Croatia. The second part of the lecture was delivered by Professor Slakoper who discussed the scope of application of the Art 8/2 of the European Convention on Human Rights and its applicability in private law relations.

The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session.
