2023 ELI Annual Conference: Ukrainian Hub Held a Webinar on Information Security of Ukraine

08.09.2023

On 8 September 2023, the Ukrainian Hub held a webinar entitled ‘Information Security of Ukraine in the Conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian War’ within the framework of the 2023 ELI Annual Conference at the University of Vienna.

The webinar casted a spotlight on the enduring Russian-Ukrainian war, which has persisted for two consecutive years. Within this conflict, the information front holds a crucial position, rivalling the importance of the physical battleground. Ukraine has devoted significant efforts to safeguarding its information security, recognising the grave danger posed by the proliferation of misinformation, propaganda, and cyberattacks. These tools can profoundly influence public consciousness and even incite criminal activities. Finding a delicate balance between combating these crimes and upholding fundamental human rights presents a formidable challenge.

Svitlana Mazepa (Interim Co-Chair of the Ukrainian Hub; Associate Professor, West Ukrainian National University), Stanislav Borys (Founder and Managing Partner; Attorneys' Association VIDAR), Tetiana Drakokhrust (Inteirm Co-Chair of the Ukrainian Hub; Professor, West Ukrainian National University) and Anna Mostetska (Judge, Ternopil City District Court of Ternopi) explored the above challenges in-depth, particularly concerning the role of the law and judges in addressing issues of responsibility within this complex landscape.
