ELI Italian Hub Organised a Conference on Italian Law on Cultural Heritage

18.06.2022

The ELI Italian Hub organised a Conference on the ‘Italian Law on Cultural Heritage: A Dialogue with the United States’ from 17–18 June 2022 in Florence (Italy).

The aim of this Conference was to exchange knowledge on cultural heritage laws. Throughout a day and a half of round-table debates and panel discussions, experts from the Italian Ministry of Culture and directors of Italian State and private museums and foundations spoke to Italian and foreign scholars of related fields in addressing issues around the heated debate on heritage.

On the first day, the opening speeches traced the history and current state of Italian cultural heritage law, while a round-table shed light, from various points of view, on the role of cultural heritage. A keynote speech during dinner covered the issue of language and cultural heritage.

The second day featured three panels: public and private in the promotion of cultural heritage; protection and circulation of cultural heritage; and the challenges of digitisation. The Conference was concluded by two very interesting speeches from a US and an Italian perspective.
